I've seen a number of Star Trek detective stories and this one comes up short, very short. The idea is actually cool - use a Rashomon style narrative to show contradictory versions of the same events. The premise works only if the motives for the contradictory points of view are revealed and or explained in the end. Unfortunately, the motivations of all involved are not clearly explained here, at least to my satisfaction, which is a shame. Better writing was sorely needed in this episode.
